Prior to 1946, Henderson State University did not have any national sororities on campus. In 1945, the campus decided to invite national sororities to colonize on campus. The Alpha Gamma chapter was officially chartered on May 4, 1946 after women from two social groups on campus came together to form Alpha Sigma Tau. AST was the first sorority to arrive at HSU that year (Alpha Sigma Alpha signed their charter later that same day), and enjoys a rich history of leadership and involvement on campus.
The history of Alpha Tau-Alpha Gamma is interwoven with the history of Henderson State University. One of our most prestigious alumna, Amy Jean Greene, became the founder of Heart and Key, a service organization on Henderson's campus dedicated to instilling the Reddie Spirit on campus.
