Letter to Alumnae
To our lovely Alpha Gamma Alumnae:
Our new executive board and officers have been put to work to kick off our spring semester to make all the following events possible!
Jennifer Stephens, Vice President of Membership Development; Jessica Shockley, Vice President of Community Relations; Summer Revels, Vice President of Operations; Faith Whiteside, Chapter President; Carrie Herron, Vice President of Organization Development; Camille Judy, Vice President of Finance; Bekah Smith, Vice President of Growth
We had a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Arkadelphia, where we raised just over $50. The original date for this fundraiser was set for Valentine's Day and called "Single and Mingle with Puppies." However, the event got rained out and rescheduled for the next dead hour. We brought around ten dogs to the quad, where several people stopped to play with them.
If you haven't heard, Sigma Tau Gamma has returned to campus to recolonize. At the beginning of the semester, Sig Tau attended our chapter business meeting to present us with yellow roses and to ask for recommendations for members. On March 24th, twenty-three associate members were installed in the Alpha Epsilon colony at Henderson State University. Our sisters attended the installation to congratulate the new members on their success.
For the past 3 years, our chapter has adopted the Love Yourself Campaign to let the campus know that it's more than okay to love yourself for who you are instead of feeling pressure from today's social media-focused society. As a part of our recruitment this semester, we had an event during dead hour focused on identifying what we think makes us stand out in a crowd. By identifying things we love about ourselves, we fight the idea that we all have to fit inside a specific mold. We don't have to like the same things or look the same way in order to be labeled as "beautiful." This event was very successful. The new members of Sig Tau came out to support our chapter, and wanted to take a group picture.
On March the 3rd, we added 3 new members to our chapter, bringing our total to 4 for the spring semester so far. Kappa Sigma (along with members of Alpha Xi Delta) came to congratulate our new members before our baseball-themed bid day celebration. The following business meeting, our new members were pinned with green and gold ribbons.
In February, our alumnae and collegiate chapter sisters voted to have a football tailgate for HSU Homecoming in the fall. We appreciate everyone taking the time to vote so the chapter can host an Alum Day tailored to what you want. The date for Homecoming 2017 has not been set yet, but as soon as it is, we will contact you!
We've just been informed that this semester during Greek Week (April 2-7th), each chapter will be naming a "Top Alum" Award at the Greek Week Awards Banquet Friday evening. We will be dressed in badge attire and all of our alumnae are invited. Unfortunately, that is all the information we have been given so far, but I promise we will update everyone as soon as we can.
Thank you all so much for your love and support! Our next newsletter will come out during Finals Week to wrap up our semester. Please follow us on social media to get more updates on what the chapter is working on! (Twitter: @ASThenderson, Instagram: @AST_AlphaGamma, Facebook: @ASThenderson)
