Hidden in the small town of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Henderson State University is the place we proudly call home. This liberal arts university was founded in 1890, just across the street from Ouachita Baptist University. The close proximity of the two colleges led to the fiercest rivalry in the state, known as Battle of the Ravine. This week long pep rally is full of pranks, practical jokes, and so much more. This isn't the only thing that makes Henderson unique. It's the only university with the Reddie Spirit. On February 3rd, 1914, a fire broke loose in the kitchen and burned the building to the ground. Among the ashes of the building where students learned, ate, studied, and lived, the Reddie Spirit was born. Instead of packing up and going home, the students came together with faculty and staff and decided to stay and help rebuild their beloved school. This spirit is one of the many reasons we are so proud to call Henderson State University not only our school, but also our home.
